When professional cyclist Champion disappears during the Tour de France, his grandmother follows the trail to the city of Belleville with help from a cartoonish trio of retired performers. Sylvain Chomets first feature earned critical acclaim for its 1930s homage, with Academy Award nominations for both Best Animated Feature and, most notably for fans, Best Original Song. The production was a multinational effort, with sequences being handled globally by studios in France, Belgium, the UK, and Canada.
