Taipei, 1960. Fourteen-year-old Xiao Sir drifts toward trouble after being transferred to a night school. Edward Yang based the film on a real incident that shook Taiwan during his youth, a first case in the nations history. The title comes from a line in the 1960 Elvis Presley rendition of the song Are You Lonesome Tonight?
